Steam turbine generators make electricity by converting steam pressure drop into mechanical power to spin a generator. High-pressure steam enters the turbine, drives the generator and exhausts at a lower pressure for use in plant heating or process. Cogeneration allows you to generate electricity with same steam now being used for heating or process. In other words we can “use the same steam twice”-once to turn a generator, and again to provide heat. All the steam entering the turbine leaves through the exhaust. The turbine does not consume the steam, but it reduces the pressure and temperature of steam.
